A large component of our compounding orders involves making creams, pessaries and other genitourinary drugs. Due to the nature of illnesses and the presence of many obstetricians and gynaecologists in the local area, conventional drug therapies and formulations are inadequate for some patients.
In order to meet these very specific needs, we compound creams for externally affected areas to control a variety of symptoms such as pain, inflammation and infection as well as drugs for internal use such as boric acid pessaries.
In instances of last resort, specialised (and otherwise unavailable) drugs can be compounded for patients whose illnesses have been resistant to other pharmacological treatments.
The presence of a large young-family demographic in Logan means that our pharmacists often work closely with local obstetricians to ensure expecting mothers receive the best treatment options for themselves and their babies.
Our pharmacists regularly compound a number of genitourinary products for all kinds of patients. Including those suffering from the following conditions:
Boric acid pessaries capsules are used to treat vaginal yeast infections, typically, those that are unresponsive to other types of treatment. It works by increasing the acidity of the vaginal environment, making it inhospitable to the fungus.
Standard treatment involves inserting one pessary at night for seven to fourteen days. Boric acid pessaries should not be used in pregnancy nor taken orally.
Diazepam pessaries are used to treat pelvic floor pain caused by uncontrolled spasmodic muscle contractions. It works by relaxing the muscles by decreasing the frequency of the nerve signals causing muscle contraction and pain.
While diazepam relaxes muscle it can also cause sleepiness and it is recommended not to drink alcohol, drive or operate machinery while taking this medication.
Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy affects a large number of women, especially during the early stages. While these symptoms often resolve themselves as the pregnancy matures, many women require some sort of medication to help them. Unfortunately, commercially available over-the-counter (OTC) options are often ineffective and prescription anti-emetics carry with them relatively high levels of risks.
For this reason our pharmacists have formulated a product which is more effective than OTC options such ginger or vitamin B6. In addition, our formulation has a better safety profile than commonly prescribed anti-emetic therapies to ensure both the baby and the mother are safe.
These modified-release capsules are an increasing-popular order in our laboratory, and are commonly prescribed by local obstetricians who are familiar with our product..
Progesterone pessaries are used under the direction of fertility specialists, gynecologists and obstetricians to increase progesterone levels within the uterus in people who have significantly reduced levels of the hormone especially during pregnancy. Treatment with these pessaries are individually assessed by your prescriber based on individual needs.
